Loan Documents in Korea for Foreigners: A Branch-Visit Checklist
The short answer
Prepare documents by the question they answer: identity, residence duration, employment, recurring income and existing obligations. Ask the chosen bank for its current document list before paying for translations or collecting extra certificates.
Information only. Product eligibility, interest, limits and fees require confirmation with the official institution.
Identity and residence are the starting point
Keep your passport and the residence or domestic residence report document appropriate to your status available. Compare your name, address and expiry information with the records used by your bank and mobile carrier.
Ask whether an original, a recent certificate or an electronic document is accepted. A photograph of a card is not automatically an acceptable substitute. Do not upload identity scans to this guide: there is no document-submission service here.
Employment and income documents should tell the same story
An employment certificate or contract describes the job. Payslips and bank deposits help explain payments. Tax or income certificates may support a different part of the review. Ask the bank which combination and which period are needed for your circumstances.
For business income or a recent job change, explain the timing of tax records and current earnings. A deposit from a friend or a transfer between your own accounts does not automatically become income simply because it appears on a statement.
Add purpose-specific documents, not every possible certificate
A jeonse route may need a lease, proof of the contract deposit and property or guarantee documents. A student product may require enrolment evidence. A family-related route may require documents relevant to the bank's specific criteria.
Check the issue-date limit, translation requirements and whether the bank retrieves any evidence with your consent. Obtaining everything at once can waste time if documents expire or the selected product does not apply to you.
Use a simple final consistency check
Before the visit, check that names, addresses, employer information and dates agree. List unexplained salary gaps or changes that you need to clarify. Bring the exact product name, not just a screenshot of a general advertising headline.
Keep a list of what you supplied and any additional request. If the bank says a document is insufficient, ask which fact is missing. The aim is a clear evidence trail, not the largest possible bundle of paperwork.
Your document checklist
Use this list to organise questions, not as a universal application requirement. The bank decides which documents and issue dates it accepts.
- Identity & residence
- Passport, the residence document appropriate to your status, expiry date and consistent name records.
- Income & employment
- The employment, salary or business evidence requested by the bank, covering its required period.
- Purpose & existing commitments
- The exact product name, requested term and existing repayments. Add lease evidence for a jeonse route.
- Questions to resolve
- Accepted document dates, application channel, additional fees and any missing eligibility requirement.

What should I prepare before contacting the bank?
Start with your residence and identity documents, the exact product name and evidence of income or employment. For a rental deposit, also check the lease and guarantee route. Ask the bank for the current list and accepted issue dates.
Are the rates or eligibility on this page guaranteed?
No. This is an independent information guide, not a lender or loan broker. Current rates, limits, fees, eligible customers and final decisions must be confirmed with the relevant financial institution.
Does this guide collect my financial documents?
No. We do not accept loan applications, identity scans, account details or income documents. Any bank application takes place through the institution's official channel.
