Korean Credit History for Foreigners: Reports, Scores and Corrections
The short answer
A credit report lists information such as credit accounts or arrears; a credit score is an assessment produced by a scoring provider. Neither is a promise of a bank's decision. Verify identity details first and use official channels to correct factual errors.
Information only. Product eligibility, interest, limits and fees require confirmation with the official institution.
What is the difference between a report and a score?
A report and a score answer different questions. The report helps you inspect the information recorded about you. A score summarises a provider's assessment under its own model. Different providers and financial institutions can use different information and criteria.
Do not interpret a score shown in an app as the exact score or decision rule used by every lender. When comparing information, record the provider and the date instead of treating all numbers as one universal measure.
How can a foreign resident check records?
Start with the official provider's identity and access requirements. If online verification does not recognise your details, check the supported residence document and phone or certificate method. An inability to log in does not establish that no credit record exists.
Credit4U is an official route for personal credit information, while score-related services have their own access methods. Confirm what each service actually displays. Do not share authentication credentials with a person offering to check on your behalf.
What should I do about a mismatch?
Compare identity details and the factual account information with your own records. If something appears wrong, contact the provider or reporting institution through its official correction process and keep the reference number.
A record may take time to reflect a change. Ask about the relevant update process rather than repeatedly refreshing different apps. Accurate negative information is not the same as an error and cannot be assumed removable on request.
How does this help before borrowing?
Understanding existing obligations makes it easier to discuss repayment capacity with a bank. Maintain a clear record of due dates and essential expenses. Do not take an unnecessary loan simply to create a borrowing history.
A lender still checks product eligibility, residence, income and its own credit criteria. Use the report alongside your document checklist, not as a substitute for it. No guide can guarantee a particular score increase.
Your document checklist
Use this list to organise questions, not as a universal application requirement. The bank decides which documents and issue dates it accepts.
- Identity & residence
- Passport, the residence document appropriate to your status, expiry date and consistent name records.
- Income & employment
- The employment, salary or business evidence requested by the bank, covering its required period.
- Purpose & existing commitments
- The exact product name, requested term and existing repayments. Add lease evidence for a jeonse route.
- Questions to resolve
- Accepted document dates, application channel, additional fees and any missing eligibility requirement.
Official sources & verification dates
Source-record dates below are not a claim that every bank term was rechecked on the editorial update date. Availability, rates and rules can change; use the official page for the final check.

What should I prepare before contacting the bank?
Start with your residence and identity documents, the exact product name and evidence of income or employment. For a rental deposit, also check the lease and guarantee route. Ask the bank for the current list and accepted issue dates.
Are the rates or eligibility on this page guaranteed?
No. This is an independent information guide, not a lender or loan broker. Current rates, limits, fees, eligible customers and final decisions must be confirmed with the relevant financial institution.
Does this guide collect my financial documents?
No. We do not accept loan applications, identity scans, account details or income documents. Any bank application takes place through the institution's official channel.
Compare unsecured loans by eligible residence status, recognised income, term, interest structure and fees rather than a headline rate.
