Limited Bank Account in Korea: Documents to Remove Transfer Restrictions
The short answer
An available balance does not establish how much you can transfer. First distinguish a limited account, your channel's transfer settings and a failed identity check. Removing an account restriction involves the bank's review of the transaction purpose; a residence card or one salary deposit does not guarantee the result.
Independent information. No account, credit or transfer outcome is guaranteed.
Identify what stopped the transfer
Check the exact message and the stage at which it appears. Did the app refuse to recognise your identity, stop before entering an amount, or reject the amount after you entered it? These are different problems. Keep the error code and the account's restriction label, but do not share an unredacted account screenshot publicly.
Your balance, available funds, per-transfer limit and daily limit need not match. An earlier payment may also have used part of the day's allowance. Compare the account-detail screen with the transfer settings before assuming that the bank has made a negative credit decision. Account access and loan underwriting are separate matters.
Understand the account restriction, not just the settings
The Financial Services Commission describes limited accounts as a route when objective evidence of a transaction purpose is unavailable. Its May 2024 reform announcement described general daily electronic limits of KRW 1 million and branch limits of KRW 3 million, with differences for internet banks and sanctioned accounts. Treat this as dated policy context, not your current account allowance.
A transfer-limit menu may change a security-method or customer setting without completing the account-purpose review. Ask the bank whether the remaining restriction belongs to the account itself or to the payment channel. Reading a large general limit on a bank website does not establish that your restricted account can use it.
Keep these facts separate
- Limited account
- Ask about transaction-purpose evidence and the account review.
- Per-transfer / daily setting
- Check channel, security method, settings and the amount already used today.
- Identity error
- Check registered names, residence documents, phone details and app support.
- Suspended or flagged account
- Use the bank's specific official process, not a routine limit-change request.
Build two separate document groups
The first group establishes identity and residence using the current documents your bank accepts. The second explains why you use the account. For salary payments, employment evidence, a payslip and an account deposit each show a different part of the story. Do not assume one document can always replace the others.
The FSC gives employment-linked insurance records and earned-income withholding records as examples for a salary purpose, while noting that banks can request different or additional evidence. Before paying for a certificate or translation, ask which document, issue date and period the bank needs for your situation. Keep the bank's answer alongside your preparation list.
If you have not received your first salary
Explain the employment start date, expected payday and the account you intend to use. Ask whether your current contract or employment evidence is sufficient for the specific review. Do not manufacture a transfer history or describe a personal transfer as employer payroll. A contract does not automatically establish that the restriction will be removed.
After a job change, separate old and new employer payments. Record why the sender name, payment date or salary pattern changed. If the bank asks for more history, clarify exactly which period and what evidence it wants. A specific follow-up date is more useful than returning with the same incomplete bundle.
Your evidence checklist
- Exact restriction label and the stage of the failed transfer
- Valid identity and residence evidence accepted by the bank
- Employment or salary-purpose evidence covering the requested period
- Differences between employer names, payslip dates and deposits
- Document issue-date rules, handling branch and next review date
When a name or phone record does not match
Compare the names recorded on your passport, residence document, bank account and mobile-phone registration. Identify where the mismatch occurs before trying repeated variations. A spacing or name-order difference should be handled through the provider's official correction process, not by borrowing someone else's phone or account.
A valid residence document and support for that document in a particular app are separate questions. Ask which identity-verification route the bank supports and whether a branch can clarify the error. You do not need to send identity-card images or authentication codes to this website to use the guide.
Leave with four precise answers
Ask: what restriction remains; which evidence and record period are accepted; which channel or branch handles the review; and what missing fact a further document must establish. These questions turn a vague request for more paperwork into a usable next step without implying that the decision is guaranteed.
Privately note the date and the exact document names. Do not apply another customer's rule about a fixed number of salary deposits to every bank. Once account access is resolved, check any borrowing requirements separately. An unrestricted payment account is not evidence of an available loan or a particular credit limit.
Check before a rent or deposit deadline
For a large scheduled payment, do not wait until the due date to test the app. Ask which official process the account and payment channel require for the intended amount. Repeated smaller attempts may not address a daily limit even if each amount is below a per-transfer limit.
Do not borrow another person's account or use an informal intermediary offered through a message to get around a restriction. Ask the bank about the proper handling route and processing time, then coordinate any necessary timing with the recipient. Recheck older advice when identity, employment or account circumstances change.

Frequently asked questions
Will a residence card remove the restriction?
Identity evidence and transaction-purpose evidence answer different questions. A residence card alone does not guarantee removal of the restriction.
Is one salary deposit enough?
There is no universal number for every bank. Confirm the bank's payroll recognition, required history and supporting evidence.
Why does a higher app limit not solve it?
The app's transfer setting can differ from an account-level restriction. Check the remaining account restriction and the exact error.
What can I do before my first payday?
Explain your start date and expected payday, and ask whether the bank accepts the contract or current employment evidence for this review.
